Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is inviting feedback from the public on proposed developments in Selangor’s capital over the next 11 years.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim urged the stakeholders to use the opportunity to make their voices heard on the MBSA Draft Local Plan 2035.

“Don’t think your voice won’t matter. Revisions have been made when residents raised their objections in the past,” he said.

Among the highlights are 12 plots involving development plans for the Selangor Maritime Gateway development.

“Under this plan, the land use zones and classification schedules are aligned with the requirements of the Selangor Maritime Gateway Economic Development Zone, the first investment corridor in Malaysia that recognises rivers as a potential economic generator.

“This is a major project under the First Selangor Plan to accelerate economic growth in the state by utilising waterways like Sungai Klang,” said Mohd Fauzi.

Based on the plan, areas in sections 33 and 35 are expected to see a slew of proposed developments across 32.22ha.

StarMetro had reported that apart from the cleaning and rehabilitation of Sungai Klang, the endgame of the Maritime Gateway project will also see the waterway being used as a mode of transportation.

During the MBSA full board meeting on April 19 last year, then mayor Dr Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid said there could be water taxis plying the waterway.

On this, Mohd Fauzi confirmed that he had personally taken a cruise on the river, from Shah Alam to Subang, to study the viability of water taxis.

The trip was organised by Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated, a body established specifically to administer assets and investments belonging to the state government.

On whether MBSA was expecting any objections from residents over any proposed development plans, the mayor cited an area of Jalan Montfort, adjacent to the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Section U9, which might elicit responses.

“This is because an affordable housing scheme has been planned on an open green space,” he noted.

The MBSA Draft Local Plan 2035 (Amendment 1) is available for inspection on the lower ground lobby and Planning Department at the ninth floor of Wisma MBSA; MBSA Kota Kemuning Branch Office, Section 31 and Selangor Town and Country Planning Department at the 16th Floor of Bangunan Darul Ehsan from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
