EFFORTS will be made to ensure the new location is suitable for car boot sale traders in Perak to do business, says Sandrea Ng.The state local government committee chairman said the state would also reassess publicity efforts to ensure the same level of customer turnout.
She said this after receiving complaints from traders who were told to move from the Dataran Bandaraya Ipoh parking lot to MBI Terrace.
“We understand the concerns of traders, regarding customer turnout and sales revenue at the new location.
“Apart from the 44 traders identified through discussions, we will seek more suitable alternative sites for others.”
Ng said this in a press conference after launching a senior citizen programme at the Urban Transformation Centre in Ipoh.Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin had said the decision to relocate the traders by Dec 21 was to prevent traffic congestion and for safety reasons.
Besides assisting traders to move, he said MBI would address the issue of unlicensed traders.
About 80 car boot sale traders, who were ordered to relocate, had shown strong opposition to the move.
An engagement session with 44 of the 80 traders had been held by the city council to brief them on the proposal to relocate them to MBI Terrace.
As for the remaining 36 traders, the city council said it would explore options such as offering them stalls in other commercial areas.
Ng concurred with Rumaizi, saying that the relocation was essential, particularly to maintain cleanliness and traffic safety. — By IVAN LOH
