RM38.4mil spent on Ampang Jaya projects

Ani (pic, below) says MPAJ has collected RM80.5mil in assessment taxes this year as of Nov 30.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) executed 194 upgrading and maintenance projects worth RM38.4mil this year, with an injection of external funding.

These initiatives, which included drainage and slope mitigation works, were supported by allocations from the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris), Housing and Local Government Ministry and Selangor Economic Planning Unit (Upen).

Out of the 194 projects, 172 had been completed, while the remainder were underway, said MPAJ president Dr Ani Ahmad during the full board meeting at Menara MPAJ in Pandan Indah, Selangor yesterday.

“Federal and state agencies’ funds for infrastructure maintenance and upgrades in Ampang Jaya aim to ensure residents’ well-being.

“MPAJ’s commitment to a balanced and frugal budget limits our financial capabilities, so these external allocations have been invaluable.

“We hope these agencies will continue providing assistance to keep our infrastructure in excellent condition and fully functional,” she said.

The projects carried out include roadworks (77), drainage (65), slopes (four), street lights (20), bus stops (20), lifts (two) and pedestrian walkways (three).

Additionally, MPAJ upgraded a stall and hawker platform, bridge and water tank.

Ani also detailed spending by MPAJ’s Engineering Department with 46 roadworks costing RM965,000, RM2.6mil for drainage, 13 slope projects for RM527,000 and 61 electrical works for RM1.2mil.

On another matter, Ani said the municipal council had taken action against 57 property owners with assessment tax arrears.

“The Revenue Department has issued reminder letters to those in Pandan Indah who owe RM129,000 in assessment taxes.”

Ani also said MPAJ collected some RM80.5mil in assessment taxes (as of Nov 30) and targetted to collect RM87.5mil this year.

The council, she said, was carrying out periodic operations against ratepayers who failed to pay assessment taxes for more than two years.

On Dec 12 and 13, operations were carried out at 20 premises around Ampang Jaya to recover RM150,936 in taxes.
