FESTIVE joy filled the air as 208 orphans and underprivileged children were treated to a Christmas event by Grace Community Services (GCS).

The event, held at a hotel in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, was themed “The Star of Christmas: No Child Left Behind” and sought to provide these children with a sense of belonging.

Through opportunities to showcase their talents, the collaboration aimed to offer the children a memorable Christmas experience that they might not have had otherwise.

Founded in 1990 by Rev Dr Henry Pillai, GCS has focused on supporting marginalised groups in Malaysia.

It addresses urgent social issues such as urban poverty, child abandonment, homelessness and substance abuse.

Rev Pillai’s mission has always aimed to help those most in need, especially in communities often overlooked by society.

The organisation feeds the hungry, clothes communities in need and provides support to vulnerable families.

Its community outreach programmes include child welfare initiatives and rehabilitation support for the elderly and homeless.

Activities included a video presentation where children shared their joy at what the season means to them, while a talent show allowed them to showcase their creativity.

The entertainment continued with guest clown Big Mike whose magic tricks and comical acts ensured laughter all round.

Each child also received a gift bag.

“Today marks another milestone in our journey to support those in need,” said Rev Pillai.

“It’s humbling to see so many people come together for a shared cause.

“Through initiatives like this, we hope to instil a sense of hope and belonging in the younger generation, allowing them to feel connected to a broader community,” he said.

GCS director Teoh Feh Leong emphasised the importance of such events for underprivileged children.

“While many children are fortunate enough to enjoy festive meals and receive beautiful gifts during Christmas, there are others who continue to struggle with unmet needs.

“This event, made possible by our generous sponsors, serves as a reminder that every child deserves to feel included and supported, especially during the Christmas season.”

In welcoming public donations in support of its mission, the organisation said a single donation could go a long way in providing meals, essentials and hope for those in need of help.
