MALAYSIA’s highest fireworks show at KL Tower lit up the skyline and heralded the New Year while setting a record.
Launched at an altitude of 307.61m above ground level (or 401.61m above sea level), the dazzling display of vibrant pyrotechnics was certified by Malaysia Book of Records as the Highest Altitude Tower Fireworks Show in Malaysia.
Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nazli Said said this was the first time they welcomed the New Year with fireworks from the tower since its opening in 1996.
“More than 2,000 visitors came to witness the spectacle.
“The record further solidifies KL Tower as the iconic destination for tourists and we hope that through this initiative, we can attract more visitors here to celebrate the countdown with us,” he said.
As early as 9pm, visitors thronged the KL Tower terrace, a grassy turf in front of the tower, and immersed themselves with the changing hues on the building while waiting for the fireworks to start.
The first fireworks was launched from the Tower Head, followed by a second display from below the Tower Terrace when the clock struck midnight.
In Putrajaya, a New Year’s Eve celebration was held at IOI City Mall with thousands in attendance.
The atmosphere was electric as the mall collaborated with Astro for the MeleTOP 2025 Countdown Concert, which featured LED jugglers, pyro displays and a fire-eating performance.
The crowd was heard singing along with their favorite artistes or sitting in silence, captivated by the performances.
The concert featured artistes such as powerhouse vocalist Aina Abdul, Shila Amzah, Hong Kong’s Canto-pop sensation William So Wing Hong, and Malaysian legend Datuk Ramli Sarip.
It also featured performances by Bunga Isme, Khai Bahar, Drama Band and Shiha Zikir.
In the mall, shoppers were entertained by violinists and a magician.
The countdown to usher in the New Year occurred during Aina’s performance, and she continued singing as the 10-minute fireworks display lit up the sky.
