HAVING regular town hall sessions to gather feedback and update local residents on ongoing matters is at the top of residents’ wish list this year for Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).
“MBSJ should revive its town hall meetings to listen to residents and taxpayers’ concerns,” said Theresa Ratnam Thong, adding that the city council had these sessions when she was a councillor between 2008 and 2010.
Theresa, a SS17, Subang Jaya resident, said she would like MBSJ to be more proactive and conduct inspections on the level of cleanliness and upkeep of roads, drains and other infrastructure in both housing and commercial areas.
She said MBSJ should relocate its recycling centre at the SS17 playground to a more conducive location, as it now resembled a waste management centre.
“This matter was brought up several times, with alternative locations suggested to the relevant council departments and councillor,” she said.
Paramjit Singh, who resides and manages a business in Bandar Puteri Puchong, said town halls were necessary to include input from business operators affected by development projects in their areas.
“From a resident’s perspective, I want to see improved waste management services, stricter enforcement on illegal dumping as well as more sustainable development with green spaces or pocket parks in residential and commercial areas.
“There is a need for better pedestrian and bicycle pathways to encourage foot traffic and integration with public transport systems,” said Paramjit.
From a business operator’s perspective, he said MBSJ should be quicker in responding to online complaints and finding a way to reduce repeated complaints on the same issues.
“The city council should improve its licence renewal process as well as provide clarity and flexibility in zoning and licensing regulations.
“MBSJ should also simplify and digitalise all its application and renewal processes for businesses in the city,” he added.
USJ3/4 Rukun Tetangga chairman YY Tan said the recreational fields in his housing area needed to be upgraded and refreshed with new soil.
“MBSJ should provide new bins for residential properties and allocate large roll-on, roll-off bins for residents to dispose of furniture, especially during festive seasons.
“The city council also needs to monitor and better manage rubbish collection and cleaning services.
“The existing work is not up to the standard as drains are hardly clean, landscape waste hardly cleared and domestic waste sometimes uncollected,” he said.
Tan added that there was also a need for more comprehensive tree maintenance as well as proper road resurfacing works.
