THE Batang Lassa Bridge in Sibu will be opened to the public tomorrow.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas is expected to complete the soft launch for the bridge that had faced delays due to electricity connection problems.

Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said in a Facebook post that the pre-launch ceremony was originally scheduled for Dec 31 but had to be postponed because the power had yet to be connected.

The official opening ceremony by Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg is slated for Feb 22.

According to Safiee, completion of the bridge would benefit Daro’s economic growth, particularly in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.

“This RM600mil bridge is not only a crucial link but also a symbol of Gabungan Parti Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring that development benefits reach the people,” he added.

The 2.43km-long bridge, which connects Pulau Bruit and Daro town in Mukah division, is the second longest river-crossing bridge in Sarawak.
