Geopark explorace shows off best of Batu Arang

SELAYANG Municipal Council (MPS) organised its “Geopark Explorace: Discover Batu Arang” to promote Batu Arang Heritage Town as one of the locations within the Gombak–Hulu Langat Geopark.

The event was also aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and strengthen ties among residents of the town in Gombak, Selangor, which was once famous for coal mining.

A total 212 participants made up the 53 groups that signed up for the walking exploration organised in collaboration with Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated.

The teams were made up of local authority representatives, Residents Zone Committee members, various government department and agency representatives as well as members of the public.

MPS deputy president Adi Faizal Ahmad Tarmizi presented the prizes at the closing ceremony.

In a statement, MPS said the winners were the UiTM Commandos team with the fastest time and highest score.

“The team successfully completed the event in the fastest time – 5 hours 46 minutes – and a 70.5 point score.

“They were crowned the champions,” the local council stated.

Second and third places went to the Yang Manis-Manis team (66 points) and OC9 team (62 points).

The champions received a trophy and cash prize of RM2,000, while the second- and third-place winners received RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively.

S. Sinnapan won a special award in the “Strongest Participant” category.

The closing ceremony and prize presentation was made merrier with cultural dance performances by SJK (C) Chap Khuan and Kasthuri Laya Dance School Rawang.

Other activities held on the sidelines of the event included a Zumba session, colouring workshop and lucky draw.
