A CHURCH in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, continued its annual tradition of giving food and school supplies to the underprivileged in conjunction with Christmas.

The celebration at Miracle Chapel Sentul was conducted by its charity arm, Persatuan Komuniti El Shaddai Kuala Lumpur.

Some 1,000 people attended the celebration which saw around 500 children going home with school bags and stationery among other gifts.

Missionary director Dr Ivan Kennedy said the celebration showed that there were still people who loved and cared for the less fortunate.

He said they spent RM50,000 for the event and thanked donors and supporters for making it happen.

“The celebration was funded by generous donors as well as proceeds from the sale of our cakes and cookies.”

He said the church has run a soup kitchen for many decades to feed the poor in Sentul and Chow Kit.

“These days, we distribute chicken briyani weekly,” he added.

For the event, attendees were served nasi lemak briyani with ayam goreng berempah.

In the spirit of giving, all single mothers also received RM50 cash aid, 10kg rice, and clothes, said Kennedy.
