Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) celebrates the arrival of Season 2025 with a concert of glitz and merry music-making on Jan 18 at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
To be led by resident conductor Gerard Salonga, the 8pm New Year’s Concert will pay homage to Johann Strauss II, “the Waltz King”.
The concert will open with Strauss’ most famous operetta overture Die Fledermaus.
This joyous and amorous composition is known for its irresistible tunes and irrepressible charm of Old Vienna.
The polkas in the concert’s repertoire list include Champagne Polka which lives up to its title as a bubbly, frothy brew.
The brilliant Thunder and Lightning is appropriately named for its thunderous rolls and flashes of lightning emanating from the percussion section.
Tritsch-Tratsch (which means “chit-chat”) may have derived from a burlesque by an Austrian playwright or from a Viennese publication of comics and gossip.
The waltzes, meanwhile, include Tales from the Vienna Woods, magnificently imbued with pastoral loveliness and references to rustic idylls.
Voices of Spring was especially dear to the composer due to its spirit-lifting return to the clear spring of melodic purity.
The famously compulsory The Blue Danube, originally written in 1867, will not fail to sweep listeners into its magical flow.
Kaiser-Walzer may be the second most popular Strauss waltz after The Blue Danube; its title reflects the music’s aura of pomp and majesty.
Join this celebration at DFP where the MPO will send you home radiantly happy after “a night in Vienna”.
Premium tickets are priced from RM229 to RM379 while Suite tickets are priced at RM439 and RM499 inclusive of light refreshments.
