New youth complex ideal hub for development, nurturing of talent
THE Pahang Youth and Sports Complex (Kombes), which is being upgraded at a cost of over RM24.7mil, will benefit the public and athletes when it is completed in June.
State communications and multimedia, youth, sports and non-government organisations committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said the Federal Government-funded project would position Kombes as a central hub for community activities and support the development of sporting talents.
“This upgraded sports complex, situated on 4.5ha state land, will become a new landmark for Pahang and is conveniently located in the heart of Kuantan.
“Its strategic location will allow youth and athletes to engage in various activities,” he told Bernama after visiting the site.
The complex will also have facilities designed for people with disabilities (PWD), 32 rooms for accommodation, a hall with a capacity for 1,000 people, an auditorium and four kiosks for youth entrepreneurs to conduct business, he added.
The project, which started on March 29, 2021, was initially scheduled for completion within 18 months.
However, the completion timeline was extended due to several factors, including the Covid-19 movement control order (MCO), weather disruptions, changes in the scope of work and additional construction activities at the site.
“As of December, the project was at 72% completion and was on track to meet the revised schedule,” said Fadzli.
“I will continue to receive monthly updates on the project’s progress and the complex will be fully operational by September,” said Fadzli.
The upgraded Kombes will include new facilities such as an administration building, dormitories, gymnasium, multi-purpose courts, a covered futsal court, skateboard park, wall climbing facility, football field with an athletic track and a petanque court.
