A leading retailer of furniture, bedding, computers, communications and consumer electrical products, has opened its newest and largest store in Penang at Sunshine Central in Bandar Baru Air Itam.

Strategically located between Air Itam and Paya Terubong, Harvey Norman reinforces a vital collaboration that strengthens the retail sector while supporting economic growth in Penang.

Harvey Norman Singapore and Malaysia managing director Bernice Kwok said this was Harvey Norman’s 36th store in Malaysia, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint across the nation.

“Recognising George Town as a metropolitan community with flourishing urban professionals and young families, our latest store at Sunshine Central is curated to offer a wide range of products from the latest electrical appliances, cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) computers and mobile devices to stylish furniture and top-tier bedroom essentials.

“As Malaysia continues to adapt to global economic challenges, Harvey Norman’s expansion reflects its dedication to making quality home solutions accessible to all,” she said in her opening speech.

Kwok added that recent government initiatives promoting affordable living and economic stability highlighted the need for retailers to provide value-driven options.

“Our product offerings align with these goals, featuring a wide array of high-quality, competitively priced items designed to enhance the daily lives of Malaysians.

“The new 47,000 sq ft store is more than just a retail store. It is a space where we bring innovation and convenience to daily life and meet the diverse needs of families in Penang.

“We tend to offer sophisticated products that are trending such as the newest AI personal computers which we are introducing to customers as part of our worldwide campaign,” she said.

Kwok said Harvey Norman was also expanding quickly nationwide as the company’s plan was to be in “every corner” of residential developments in the country.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Penang local government, town and country planning committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang, Sunshine Wholesale Mart Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Cynthia Hwang, Harvey Norman Malaysia chief operating officer Jonathan Toh and other senior executives including lead general manager Eddy Ng and electrical division general manager Ian Bushy Martin.

H’ng, who represented Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, said the state’s commitment to developing a robust retail ecosystem would benefit both businesses and the community while enhancing the quality of life for residents.

“Harvey Norman’s expansion, with its largest retail store in Penang, is a testament to its commitment to innovation and consistent growth in Malaysia.

“This store not only strengthens Penang’s retail sector but also supports its vision for a more liveable and sustainable urban landscape,” he said.

Joseph said as a local Air Itam resident, he could not help but feel excited about what the store represented.

“It is more than just a new retail space. It is an embodiment of Harvey Norman’s commitment to excellence, a promise to continue building strong, long-term relationships with its customers.

“This new store will not only offer an extensive range of products, but will also deliver top-tier customer service and provide an engaging, fulfilling shopping experience that every customer deserves.”

To commemorate the launch, Harvey Norman Sunshine Central also hosted exciting activities over the weekend where shoppers could enjoy exclusive promotions, including RM1 lucky draws with prizes such as large-screen TVs and smartphones.

Guests who spent a minimum of RM300 were guaranteed to win attractive prizes, ensuring an engaging and rewarding shopping experience.

In conjunction with Chinese New Year, the store is offering unbeatable deals, making it the ultimate destination for customers looking to upgrade their homes with high-quality products at competitive prices.
