Dr Shalini Devi Ramachandran, Mrs Malaysia World 2024, is expected to dazzle on the world stage with her national costume featuring an over 100m-long train.

She will take part in the Mrs World 2024 pageant in the US at the end of this month clad in the red-and-black “Puteri Membara Malaysia”.

The ensemble is officially recognised by Malaysia Book of Records for the longest train created for a national costume.

Designed by Sarawakian designer Saran Anak Lagong, the costume draws inspiration from traditional Malaysian elements, incorporating intricate batik and songket motifs that are blended with contemporary artistry.

It also uses the colours to symbolise the strength, passion and resilience of Malaysian women.

Dr Shalini, 37, is a Selangor-born medical doctor who had previously battled various health conditions including obesity, Type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, and hypothyroidism.

She hopes to inspire others with her journey of resilience, strength and transformation. — By Lew Guan Xi
