THE media community in Penang came out in full force to enjoy a retro-themed appreciation night hosted by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
The event brought together around 200 media professionals, including writers, photographers, videographers and editors from various agencies, for an evening dedicated to fostering camaraderie and recognition.
The night featured lively performances, games and a lucky draw with 75 prizes up for grabs.
One of the highlights was a stellar performance by Tan Jia Ying, 33, from Chief Minister’s Office, who sang Same Moonlight by Su Rui.
Her show-stopping act earned her the top prize, with the crowd cheering enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, reporter Jack Tan Hu Chuan, 47, from Nanyang Siang Pau, won the second spot with his impressive rendition of The Little Li Flying Dagger by Roman Tam, while Noor Asrolizham Zakaria, 44, from TV3 clinched the third place for his performance of Abang Beca by Broery Marantika.
In his speech, Chow expressed gratitude for the media’s tireless efforts throughout the year.
“This occasion celebrates everyone’s hard work and dedication,” he said.
“The year 2024 has presented many challenges, but tonight, we come together to celebrate and usher in a better new year.
“Thank you for your commitment and for being here,” he said.
Chow later charmed the audience with his rendition of Teresa Teng’s Yue Liang Dai Piao Wo De Xin (The Moon Represents My Heart).
State executive councillor Jason H’ng also took to the stage to belt out Perfect by Ed Sheeran and Terima Kasih by Awie.
Prizes were also awarded to those who embraced the event’s “Retro Night” theme.
Noor Siti Nabilah Noorazis, 30, from Buletin Mutiara, won the female category, while Noor Asrolizham’s outfit, complete with a wig and briefcase, secured him the male category prize.
