Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and Merdeka Stadium are among primary venues being considered for the opening ceremony of Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026 in Selangor should construction of Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) be delayed.
Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said the state was exploring alternatives and taking inspiration from the innovative approach of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, Bernama reported.
“We are not constrained by conventional methods. Selangor’s sports infrastructure is already extensive and well equipped.
“In the recent Olympics, France utilised a river setting with athletes on boats.
“Selangor has many alternative venues and we will announce the selected location along with the concept and execution plans later.
“Our goal is to align the organisation of Sukma 2026 with Selangor’s unique context and identity,” Mohd Najwan said at the Selangor Madani Youth Tour Carnival Series 3 at Pantai Remis in Jeram, Kuala Selangor.
