T’ganu monsoon race promotes cycling, health

Abdul Syazwan Abdul Rahman, from MiFH Cycling Group, emerged Elite Category winner of the sixth instalment of Terengganu Inc Challenge Series: International Golden Monsoon Ride (IGMR).

Abdul Syazwan completed the course in a time of 1 hour and 13 minutes.

Polis Diraja Malaysia Cycling Team emerged as the club with the most participants, boasting 41 racers.

The event was organised by TDM Bhd, one of Terengganu Inc’s subsidiaries, and held at Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre (PSKT) in Chendering, Kuala Terengganu.

It was launched by state youth development, sports and NGOs chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim who said, “Terengganu government actively encourages citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

“This initiative aligns with our vision of making Terengganu a progressive and sustainable state while raising public awareness about the importance of maintaining health through physical activities like cycling.”

According to its press statement, IGMR achieved a new milestone with over 2,000 participants and volunteers, including international representation from countries like Thailand and Singapore.

“The event also delivered significant economic benefits, particularly by attracting tourists from domestic and international markets.”

The influx of visitors, it said, created opportunities for local entrepreneurs to market their products and services, including food, souvenirs and cycling gear.

Other attendees included Tengku Datuk Farok Hussin Tengku Abdul Jalil, TDM chairman Burhanuddin Hilmi Mohamed @ Harun, Terengganu Inc president and group chief executive officer Najman Kamaruddin as well as representatives from government agencies and state-linked companies.

Tengku Farok said, “By fostering a healthier community, promoting unity and raising environmental awareness, IGMR underscores the importance of a holistic approach to achieving long-term well-being.”

Terengganu State Sports Council, Terengganu Cycling Association, Terengganu Cycling Team and other government agencies also collaborated to make the event a success.
