MALAYSIANS now have a new place to go for their cuppa with the arrival of a China coffee company and coffeehouse chain on our shores.

Luckin Coffee recently opened two outlets: one in Sunway Pyramid, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, and another one in Menara EcoWorld Bukit Bintang City Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

Global Aroma Sdn Bhd (GASB) chief executive officer Dr Jeff Lim said he aspires to provide Malaysians with high-quality coffee at an affordable price through Luckin Coffee.

“Our first-time customers can get their first cup of coffee for only RM2.99.

“This offer will continue until further notice,” he told StarMetro.

GASB is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hextar Industries Bhd (HIB) which entered into a strategic partnership with Luckin Coffee Holding Singapore Pte Ltd to bring the brand into Malaysia.

Lim said all the Luckin Coffee transactions will be cashless.

“Customers can place their orders via the Luckin Coffee app or by scanning the QR codes at the outlets,” he said.

The Luckin Coffee app, which was launched alongside the two outlets, can trace customers’ buying behaviours and preferences to provide them with personalised offers, according to Lim.

“We will analyse the data collected to see which products are popular.

“By having this information, we can customise our menu to suit Malaysians’ taste,” he said.

He added that three more Luckin Coffee outlets would be opening soon in The Sphere Bangsar South, Pavilion Damansara Heights and Aeon Maluri.

HIB’s major shareholder Datuk Eddie Ong said starting from the Klang Valley, they plan to open a new outlet every week.

“We hope that by the end of this year, we can expand outside of the Klang Valley to fulfil the needs of all Malaysians, including those in Sabah and Sarawak.

“Bringing Luckin Coffee to Malaysia is an exciting opportunity to transform the local coffee scene.

“We aim to introduce a modern coffee experience that is accessible to all while contributing to Malaysia’s economic development and enhancing the way people connect over coffee,” he added.

Ong hopes to make Luckin Coffee one of the top coffee brands in Malaysia.

Founded in 2017, Luckin Coffee now operates 21,343 stores globally.

Its first overseas outlet opened in Singapore in 2023. By the end of that year, the chain had 30 outlets in the country.
