Association mulling ways to line up activities and promote attractions in Pasir Gudang
Pasir Gudang Tourism Association is looking for support from local stakeholders in an effort to boost tourism and promote diversity.
Newly appointed association chairman Madyasir Ahmad Basir said the new committee hoped to get tourism stakeholders’ support to promote local attractions.
“With Visit Johor Year 2026 fast approaching this will be one of our biggest challenges this year,” he said.
Madyasir said the association’s current focus was on preparing for the Pasir Gudang International Kite Festival next month.
“This year, there will be two kite festivals – the annual international one and the national festival in October.
“These changes are aimed at providing more activities for the people of Pasir Gudang to enjoy with their families,” he said.
Kampung Baru Masai village chief Dr Chua Ching Hao suggested for the association’s new committee to open membership to more races to reflect the multicultural identity of Pasir Gudang.
“The association was established after the (Covid-19) pandemic in 2022 as part of the Pasir Gudang City Council’s (MBPG) plan to revitalise tourism in the city.
“However, the previous committee was not very active as the tourism industry was still recovering at the time.
Chua said Sarawak and Sabah folk had established community hubs, such as Pasar Borneo in Taman Megah Ria and Pasar Muafakat Sabah in Seri Alam.
“These places offer unique cultural experiences that can add value to our local tourism and cultural events.
“With the upcoming Visit Johor Year 2026, I hope we still have time to effectively promote Pasir Gudang so everyone can benefit from increased tourist arrivals.”
