Only Malaysians allowed to operate festive bazaar stalls, says JB city council

Bazaar organisers and stall owners are reminded not to allow foreigners to operate at sites approved by MBJB.

FOREIGNERS are not allowed to operate stalls at all 62 Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars in the city, says Johor Baru City Council (MBJB).

Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad said the city council would not hesitate to take action against violators, including seizing their stalls.

“Bazaar organisers are reminded not to allow foreigners to operate at sites approved by MBJB.

“Action will also be taken against stall owners who abuse their licences by renting them out to foreigners,” he said after chairing his first MBJB full board meeting as the new Johor Baru mayor.

Migrants were not allowed to hold the licences, he said, adding that the condition was stated in the licence agreement for bazaar organisers and stall applicants.

Mohd Haffiz added that the city council has approved 62 Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaar locations this year, with 10 being new locations.

He said one new Ramadan bazaar site was the parking lot of the old Ayer Molek prison.

Other new locations include Taman Setia Tropika, Taman Damansara Utama, Bandar Dato’ Onn and Taman Desa Cemerlang.

This year, MBJB is offering over 3,500 trading lots for Ramadan bazaar traders selling cooked food and Aidilfitri bazaar traders selling products such as apparel and biscuits.

“MBJB will consider adding more locations based on the proposals submitted, but it must not clash with existing bazaar sites,” Mohd Haffiz added. — By YEE XIANG YUN
