Charis Mantin Welfare Institution, a non-profit organization that cares for senior citizens and young children, is RM1.1mil away from its RM3mil fundraising goal for its permanent home project.
The Negri Sembilan-based institution, first established in 1988, provides medical care, balanced meals and personal counseling to the elderly. Many of the residents that come to the facility are without homes and referred there by hospitals.
The organization also owns the Charis Love U Children Center, which provides free academic tutoring and meals to underprivileged children.
In 2019, Charis Mantin bought land in Taman Bukit Belian, Mantin, to expand on existing limitations on accommodation and to avoid rental-related issues.
The organization moved forward with plans to build a two-and-a-half story building that would house 40 elderly residents and 20 children but faced unexpected challenges with the project when the pandemic hit.
Slowed progress and construction meant that the organization was faced with a RM3mil final cost.
In the face of such adversity, Charis Mantin turned to the community.
The Star previously reported on this story, sharing that the organization was seeking an additional RM1.4mil for the project.
As of Feb 20, 2025, Charles Mantin has received a total of RM1.9mil in donations. The institution is now RM1.1mil away from seeing this project come to life.
Bee Theng, a volunteer at Charis Mantin, emphasized that this project is more than just a new home for its residents. She says the new building will be a hub for the community, even offering access to rehabilitation equipment and leisure activities like chess and board games.
“It’s about creating a place where they can feel secure and cared for,” she added.
