RESIDENTS of Taman Bukit Belimbing in Balakong, Selangor, have been enduring potholed roads for years.
Although resurfaced many times, new potholes appear due to the high volume of lorries plying the area daily.
“One of the roads in the worst condition is Jalan Belimbing, the main thoroughfare that links our neighbourhood and nearby housing areas with Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway,” said Taman Bukit Belimbing Residents Association’s former deputy chairman Vincent Raj.
“The lorries use the road as a shortcut to get to Balakong Industrial Park located nearby.
“A height barrier should be put up to deter lorries from using the road,” he said.
He added that there was a nearby road designed for heavy vehicle usage.
StarMetro has reported about Jalan Belimbing and other roads in the neighbourhood being damaged by heavy vehicles on Oct 2, 2020, followed by May 13, 2022, and again on Jan 6 this year.
Vincent said although Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) had undertaken works to resurface Jalan Belimbing early this year, the patched spots were damaged again soon after.
In the Jan 6 report, MPKj Zone 5 councillor Jack Tan said the local council resurfaced Jalan Belimbing four times last year.
“The council’s 2024 budget has been exhausted.
“We are now relying on the in-house road maintenance team to fix the issue,” he was quoted as saying.
In a follow-up enquiry, Tan reiterated that the local council was continuously monitoring and repairing potholes in the area.
The potholed Jalan Belimbing was resurfaced after StarMetro’s interview with Vincent.
Vincent pointed out that Jalan Belimbing was also impacted by sand debris, carried by water runoff from higher ground.
“I reported the matter to KDEB Waste Management and the workers frequently come to carry out the cleanup.
“I am thankful to KDEB for prompt response, but a permanent solution must be identified,” he said.
