A former stewardess, Christine Chin started her own fashion boutique, Tyra Mei, in 2004, focusing on such traditional wear as the kebaya, baju kurung and kebarung. Over the last 12 years, the 49-year-old has developed a distinctive style. She talks to ZIEMAN about inspiration, competition and customers.

I was born in Malacca, and I also studied there. I was a stewardess with Cathay Pacific in 1989 and used to live in Hong Kong for 13 years. But after I delivered my second child, Tyra Mei (the shop is named after her), I decided to quit my job and return to Malaysia.
