I AM writing to draw attention to a pressing issue in our community: the insufficient number of parking spaces for the disabled in Ipoh, Perak.
Despite growing awareness and advocacy for inclusivity and accessibility, our city still falls short in providing adequate facilities for people with disabilities.
These parking spaces are essential for ensuring individuals with disabilities can access public spaces and services with ease and dignity.
They are designed to accommodate the unique needs of people who face mobility challenges, offering them proximity to entrances and additional space for assistive devices.
However, many public areas in Ipoh, including shopping complexes, medical facilities and recreational areas, lack sufficient parking spaces for people with disabilities.
This not only inconveniences those who rely on these spaces, but also limits their ability to participate fully in community life.
I urge Ipoh City Council (MBI) to take immediate action to address this issue.
Increasing the number of parking spaces for the disabled in key areas of the city is not only a matter of compliance with accessibility standards, but also a reflection of our commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity for all residents.
Implementing these changes will greatly enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities in Ipoh and set a positive example for other cities in Malaysia.
With concerted efforts by our local authorities, we can create a more accessible and inclusive environment for everyone.
