Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) needs to remove most of the speed humps along Jalan Matang Pagar in Sungai Buloh, Selangor.
Installed all the way from Jalan Hospital to the Kuang railway bridge, these humps are causing severe congestion.
This is a main road on which one expects reasonable speed for traffic that should not be restricted by speed breakers.
Road humps should not be built along a main road just because there are roadside traders and businesses.
Due to the close gap between these humps, traffic movement is restricted while the risk of accidents is increased.
As this problem has caused residents to be late for work, many have left the large housing estates.
The problem has been around for some time, and MPS has turned a blind eye to the obvious need to remove the humps as well as widen the road.
Over the past 20 years, many housing estates, gated communities and major firms have been set up in surrounding areas.
This has led to an increase in population and peak hour traffic.
MPS has to ensure proper roads are built and not just widen them piecemeal.
The severe congestion may lead to more houses becoming vacant if nothing is done.
It is hoped that Paya Jaras assemblyman Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri, Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri R. Ramanan and the MPS Zone 20 councillor can urgently look into this matter to help long-suffering residents and road users.
