Melaka passes Bill to lower age limit to become assemblymen


MELAKA: The Melaka state assembly unanimously passed the Melaka State Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2022 to lower the qualified age for an individual to be eligible to become an assemblyman from 21 to 18 years old.

The amendment to the Bill was proposed following the Parliament’s amendment of Section 5, 8th Schedule of the Federal Constitution through Section 4 of the Constitution (Amendment) Act 2019 (Act A1603), effective Sept 11, 2019.
