Reveal outcome of probe against Judge Mohd Nazlan, MPs urge Azalina

KUALA LUMPUR: Several lawmakers have called on Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic) to reveal what happened to the probe on Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.

Manndzri Nasib (BN-Tenggara) said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) completed investigation papers on Mohd Nazlan in September last year.

“Last year, it was leaked on social media that Mohd Nazlan was said to have gone against Section 220 of the Penal Code.

“I want to ask the de facto law minister about the status about Mohd Nazlan and what is the next action taken by the Attorney General,” said Manndzri in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 14).

Section 220 of the Penal Code covers the offence of committing persons for trial or confinement while knowing such action is contrary to law.

Wan Saiful Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor) also said the accusations that Mohd Nazlan had tarnished the judiciary and an update should be given on the matter.

“The MACC has investigated this and said it was completed, as mentioned by Tenggara.

“But, till now, there is no explanation by the MACC regarding the outcome of the investigation,” said Wan Saiful.

Wan Saiful questioned the silence behind the probe on Mohd Nazlan.

“Was the outcome of MACC investigations hidden because no offence was committed?” Wan Saiful asked.

Wan Saiful said he wouldn't be surprised if Perikatan Nasional leaders were investigated one day for speaking out against the unity government led by Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional.

“Guilty or not, that’s a different issue. Most importantly, charge them first,” added Wan Saiful.

Last September, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Zaki said the commission had completed investigation papers on Mohd Nazlan and the commission was awaiting further instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).

The MACC was quoted as saying that the investigation papers were submitted to the AGC in May last year after completing its probe into allegations of unexplained source of fortune involving Mohd Nazlan.
