Bukit Aman working with Australian cops to investigate RM789mil heroin bust

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman are investigating the shipment of over 300kg of heroin from Malaysia that was seized by Australian authorities last month in Brisbane.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Norsiah Mohd Saaduddin, in a statement on Monday (April 10), confirmed that the Australian Federal Police (AFP) had seized 336kg of the narcotic after it was shipped in a container from Malaysia.

"The Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Departments are currently investigating the matter with information from the AFP, before any follow up actions are conducted," she said.

She added that the container reached Australia on March 13 and that it had an estimated value of RM789.56mill.

On April 6 the Australian Associated Press reported that the 336kg shipment was the second largest heroin bust in the country, and the largest for the state of Queensland.

Australian Federal Police Commander John Tanti, as quoted by the news portal, said that the drugs had been sophisticatedly concealed.

The drugs were hidden within cement blocks and were discovered after it was sent for an X-ray scan.

A 55 year old man was arrested after he allegedly collected and transported the items to Mount Druitt, Sydney.

He allegedly used industrial tools to gain access to the drugs.

Around 960 packages of drugs were recovered after drilling into the cement blocks.
