Malaysia prioritises sustainable development as it prepares for Asean chairmanship, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is focused on advancing sustainable development in the region, especially as it prepares to assume the Asean chairmanship next year, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He highlighted PETRONAS’ key role as a catalyst to accelerate the country’s transition to net zero. Malaysia remains committed to supporting the national oil and gas company in forging worldwide strategic partnerships.

"I believe that all Malaysians are proud of PETRONAS’ achievements, which continue to be one of the main topics in bilateral discussions between world leaders and me,” Anwar said in a post on X on Saturday (Aug 24).

The prime minister said that since its establishment, PETRONAS has fulfilled its mandate in balancing business interests and contributing to national development through the trust and close support of stakeholders and business partners from all over the world.

"The highest appreciation goes to the leadership and staff of PETRONAS, who are not only the backbone of Malaysia’s economic strength but also the nation’s pride for having maintained the principles of good governance and order throughout the company’s 50 years of glorious history,” he said. – Bernama
