Rice mill in Kota Baru razed in early morning fire


KOTA BARU: A rice mill that was not in operation in Kampung Tempoyak Ketereh here was destroyed in a fire on Friday (Aug 30).

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Md Roslan Omar said they dispatched firefighting teams to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 1.32am.

He said the mill was already 60% ablaze when firemen reached the scene.

He added that the firefighting operation was carried out using water from a nearby ditch, with additional assistance from an excavator, before the fire was brought under control at 2.07am.

"We also received assistance from the Pasir Tumboh Fire and Rescue Station and two other stations, with a total of 23 personnel and officers involved in the operation.

"No casualties were reported," he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 31). – Bernama
