Muhammad Yunus a compassionate human being the world needs, says Anwar

DHAKA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised Dr Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh's interim government, as a compassionate human being whose qualities are sorely needed in the world today.

The Prime Minister commended the Nobel laureate for his work touching the hearts and souls of the marginalised and less fortunate.

"I have known you for the past four decades as a person who has taken initiatives to help the less fortunate. Your lack of experience in governance is nothing compared to your strength and passion for the poor, marginalised, and for the people," Anwar said.

He highlighted the current global issues, mentioning Gaza and Lebanon, and noted, "What’s lacking is the deficit of humanity, justice, and compassion."

Anwar's statements came during his one-day visit to Bangladesh, marking the first visit by a head of a foreign government since the formation of an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.

Anwar expressed his belief in Yunus's effort to transform Bangladesh into a vibrant democracy, respecting the rights of every citizen.

"I'm very pleased with your sincere response and knowing you personally, I trust your leadership and dedication, and I want to offer any small assistance if and whenever you need it," he added. – Bernama
