SHAH ALAM: The collection of contributions to appreciate the services of Attorney General Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, who is set to retire on Nov 11, will not proceed, says the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC).
The AGC said, in a press release, that this decision reflects Ahmad Terrirudin's own wish not to continue with the initiative, despite its noble intention.
"Regarding the issue of collecting contributions from Deputy Public Prosecutors to acknowledge the Attorney General's services, the department wishes to emphasise that although the contribution's intention was sincere, the Attorney General has requested that this initiative not be pursued," the statement, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday.
Previously, there were viral claims on social media and Telegram that the department was asked to provide financial contributions to purchase a retirement gift for Ahmad Terrirudin.
The contribution amounts were reportedly divided according to grade: Turus (RM500); Public Sector Premier Post (JUSA) A (RM400); B (RM300); and C (RM200), while the lowest rank, L44 (RM30) and L41 (RM20).
It is understood that the retirement celebration event was also organised to honour Ahmad Terrirudin, who is expected to be appointed as a Federal Court judge, although complete details have yet to be obtained.
