TUNKU Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) celebrated a milestone recently with its first collaboration with an industry partner from Cambodia.

TAR UMT, which was recently upgraded from university college to a full-fledged varsity, signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with IG Tech Group (IG Tech), a group of fast-growing technology and innovation companies based in Cambodia, on Dec 5.

The agreement is aimed at facilitating collaborative efforts through technical consultancy to support the development of identified products or solutions initiated by the group, and exploring joint research, technical programmes and solutions development.

As part of the collaboration, the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC) will provide technical support to IG Tech for the development of projects, products and research programmes.

TAR UMT will provide artificial intelligence, big data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT) consultancy for solutions jointly developed by IG Tech and the NPIC under the MoA.

The document was signed by TAR UMT president Prof Dr Lee Sze Wei, and IG Tech chairman and president Kim Puthkiry.

With its move towards high-tech innovation, finding a qualified engineering team to support the group has been extremely challenging, said Puthkiry in a press release.

“We are pursuing entrepreneurship and upskilling opportunities. Moving forward, the NPIC will help us expedite the development of our high-tech projects and venture into tech innovation.”

Prof Lee said the varsity has been working closely with industry in various areas.

“Today’s signing ceremony is an important milestone for us because this is the first time we are working with an industry partner from Cambodia. We hope this collaboration will be successful and of mutual benefit,” he said.
