FOR 250 underprivileged children and senior citizens from seven homes in the Klang Valley and Negri Sembilan, the just concluded year-end festive season was made all the more joyous with the gift packages they had received from UCSI Group and UCSI Care.
And the gifts were not just random choices made by the sponsors, but carefully selected based on the 250 wish lists from the recipients themselves.
The endeavour to add more cheer to the home residents was part of the organisers’ annual corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Titled “Gifts of Love and Care”, the Christmas charity campaign was held from Dec 1 to 20 at the varsity’s campus with the wish lists displayed on Christmas trees made from recyclable items such as hangers.
Staffers and students were given the opportunity to choose the wish lists for which to prepare the gifts, with a personal message addressed to the recipients.
UCSI Care chairman and UCSI Group head of events Lucas Lim said the campaign drew the most participants in 2022 compared to the preceding four years.
“Our staff members’ and students’ gifts and contributions left us speechless. We were moved by their thoughtfulness and kindness,” he said in a press release dated Dec 22.
He added that the campaign aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1, which is to end poverty, and SDG 11, which is to create sustainable cities and communities that leave no one behind.
The group also received sponsorship of daily necessities such as toiletries and towels to be given to the homes.
The gifts and essential items were distributed to the homes between Dec 21 and 24.
The seven participating homes were Bodhi Homecare, Persatuan Kebajikan Wen Hua, Anbu Illam (Boys Home), Tong Sim Senior Citizens Care Centre, Karunai Illam (Girls Home), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Yatim dan Miskin Wawasan Port Dickson, and Vivekananda Children Home in Rembau.
