1 2024/25 Rotary Peace Fellowship

Opening: February

> This fellowship is open to those seeking to undertake master’s degree programmes, as well as professional development certificate programmes.

> Master’s degree programmes: Fellows will study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body. The programmes last 15 to 24 months, and include a two- to three-month field study, which will be designed by the fellows themselves.

> Professional development certificate programme: During this one-year blended learning programme, fellows can gain practical skills to promote peace within their community and across the globe. They will complete field studies, and design and carry out a social change initiative. This programme is intended for working professionals as they will earn a post-graduate diploma upon completion.

2 MEXT Scholarships (Japanese Studies & Teacher Training)

Closing: Feb 17

> Scholarship applications should be made to the Embassy of Japan in Kuala Lumpur. The requirements and application period of the programmes differ.

> Japanese Studies: Applicants must be between 18 and 29 years of age as of April 1 (born between April 2, 1993, and April 1, 2005); second or third year undergraduates (must not be final year students) majoring in Japanese Language or Japanese Culture enrolled in non-Japanese universities. This is on top of having a good command of the Japanese language.

> Teacher Training: Applicants must be under the age of 35 as of April 1 (born on or after April 2, 1988); graduates of universities or teacher training colleges who work as teachers in primary or secondary schools or as academic staff at teacher training institutions with at least five years of experience in their terms of service. A good command of the English language and willingness to learn Japanese is a must. Applications for government school teachers should be made to the Education Ministry, Malaysia.

3 Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship

> There are two options for the scholarship: the International Tertiary Students Scholarship and the Short-Term Training Scholarships for Citizens of Asean and Timor-Leste.

> International Tertiary Students Scholarship: Closing: Feb 28

> This is a full scholarship for students to study full-time at New Zealand education institutions or a Pacific university.

> Short-Term Training Scholarships for Citizens of Asean and Timor-Leste: Closed application; Interested applicants are required to write a letter to the New Zealand Embassy.

> Professionals can apply for this scholarship to undertake a short professional training course in the following themes and sectors: good governance (public sector leadership); climate change and resilience (renewable energy; geothermal energy; agriculture).

> These short training courses are delivered by education institutions in New Zealand. Courses are two to four weeks long.

4 President’s PhD Scholarship at Imperial College London

Closing: March 1

> This scholarship allows students to receive full funding for tuition fees and a stipend for thee-and-a-half years.

> Scholars can also undertake a research project of their choice with the support of a supervisor, alongside cohort-building opportunities with other President’s PhD scholars.

> Applicants will also be considered for the Sir Michael Uren Engineering Scholarship and the Sir Michael Uren Medicine Scholarship, which support interdisciplinary research across medicine and engineering.

5 Government of Romania Scholarship

Closing: March 1

> Applicants may select any study programme of interest in all fields, except for medicine, dental medicine and pharmacy. For Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, study programmes are only available in Romanian.

> However, at the PhD level, applicants can opt for a programme in English or a foreign language set by the doctoral school. > A preparatory year in Romanian will be granted prior to enrolling in the study programme of choice for non-Romanian speakers.

6 DAAD Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS) Scholarships

> For the 2023/24 academic year, the applications are still open for these two courses: International Media Studies (Masters) and Development Management (Masters).

> International Media Studies (Masters): Closing: March 31

> This is a 24-month course (excluding the German Language course) at either of these institutions: HS Bonn-Rhein-Sieg; DW Akademie; or U Bonn. The mode of delivery will be in English.

> Development Management (Masters): Closing: Sep 30

> An 18-month course (excluding the German Language course) at RU Bochum. The mode of delivery will be in English.

7 Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships

> Recipients for this scholarship are selected by the awarding body, the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS).

> The scholarship is aimed at young researchers from abroad who have completed a master’s degree or PhD, as well as foreign artists holding a bachelor’s degree.

> There are a few types of scholarships available, namely, research fellowships, PhD, postdoctoral, and the arts.

8 Harvard University MBA Scholarship

> The Boustany MBA Harvard Scholarship is granted once every two years for a two-year course at Harvard Business School.

> This scholarship offers financial aid amounting to 75% of the tuition fees and travel expenses related to the internship done under the course at the university.

> Candidates may apply for the scholarship only after receiving an offer of admission from the Harvard MBA programme.

9 Chevening Scholarship Malaysia Opening: Aug

> Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarship programme. Scholars will get to study in the UK for one year on a fully-funded master’s degree course.

> At the end of the scholarship, scholars will be part of the global alumni network which consists of around 50,000 members.
