A TOTAL of RM300,000 will be channelled to three schools in Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, for maintenance and repairs.
Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying said classes conducted at SK Sungai Anib 3, Sandakan, an Integrated Education Programme (PPKI) school with 54 special needs students, was impressive.
“PPKI must be a priority. We would like to have more such classes in all districts to ensure every special child receives a quality education,” she said, after visiting the school on Feb 8.
Lim, who announced an allocation of RM100,000 for SK Sungai Anib 3, also visited SJKC Pei Ying.
She said the ministry was looking into the relocation of the Sandakan school due to dwindling enrolment.
On Feb 7, Lim visited SK(C) Anglo Chinese and SJK(C) Chung Hwa Likas in Kota Kinabalu.
The schools, which were infested with termites, had leaky roofs, and lacked toilets, received RM100,000 each from the ministry.
“Hopefully, the allocation can go towards the repair, maintainance and upgrading of the schools,” she told the media.
Lim said more such visits would be conducted in the state and in Sarawak to see how the ministry could help address the education issues faced by rural schools.
Lim, according to Bernama, also outlined three focus areas to help improve education, namely, upgrading school infrastructure, tackling schools with low enrolment, and enhancing special needs education.
