SUNWAY International School (SIS) Sunway City Kuala Lumpur recently celebrated a milestone with the opening of its new campus at USJ 1, Selangor.

The only school in Malaysia offering the globally recognised Canadian (Ontario) school curriculum, SIS conducts programmes for kindergarten, primary school (Grades One to Five), middle school (Grades Six to Eight) and high school (Grades Nine to 11).

The first Malaysia Green Real Estate (GreenRE) Platinum-certified school to optimise student performance and well-being also caters to the pre-university level (Grades 11 to 12) according to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

“From a small building with 25 students in 2008, SIS Sunway City Kuala Lumpur has now expanded with a new 3.2ha green-certified campus that will accommodate up to 3,000 students covering kindergarten to pre-university levels,” said Sunway Education Group chief executive officer Prof Datuk Dr Elizabeth Lee at a housewarming session to mark the opening of the campus in January.

The new campus facilities include 74 classrooms with interactive whiteboards, rooms for drama and theatre, and arts and music, a language lab, a science lab and a technology lab fitted with the latest equipment.

Other facilities include an Olympic-size swimming pool, a football field and a large multipurpose hall with a capacity of up to 2,000 students for events and activities.

Supported by an academic team comprising teachers from Canada and other countries, SIS is licensed by the Ontario Education Ministry, Canada, a press release read.

It added that starting July this year, the school will be offering the Sunway Cambridge International Programme, which prepares students for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Among those present at the housewarming event were British High Commission Kuala Lumpur deputy high commissioner David Wallace; Canadian High Commission Kuala Lumpur senior trade commissioner (Commercial) Ryan Baerg; International Baccalaureate senior development manager Faizol Musa; Selangor State Education Department representative Ezani Yusof; Lancaster University vice-chancellor Prof Andy Schofield; Sunway University Lancaster Programmes academic dean Prof Andrew James Abbott; SIS executive director Dr Cheng Mien Wee; SIS Canadian International School and Matriculation Programme director and principal Heath Kondro; and Cambridge International for Malaysia and Brunei country director Ng Kim Huat.
