Solid start for medical studies

Muqry Hilman completed his Foundation in Science at RUMC and is well on his way towards completing his Clinical Training under the Undergraduate Medicine programme.

With a clear course towards a career in medicine chartered, 18-year-old aspiring doctor Muqri Hilman enrolled in the Foundation in Science (FIS) programme at RCSI and UCD Malaysia Campus (RUMC) in 2018.

Muqri completed the foundation programme in Penang and departed for Dublin, Ireland in 2019 where he received his pre-clinical training for two and a half years.

In 2022, Muqri returned to Penang to undergo the clinical training phase of the undergraduate medicine programme.

By 2024, Muqri will graduate from RUMC as a doctor armed with an internationally recognised degree from the National University of Ireland (NUI), ready to take on vast opportunities offered in the world of medicine.

RUMC’s FIS programme is a unique pre-undergraduate pathway for students who desire to become doctors. The programme is specially curated for aspiring doctors, allowing them to have an early introduction to the medical and clinical fields.

Students fresh out of secondary school can get a head start in the globally sought after RUMC experience.

“I chose the Foundation in Science programme as it is very systematic and reliable. RUMC is a great platform to start college, especially if you are planning to go overseas. I encourage others to take the leap of faith to pursue medicine at RUMC, where they nurture you all the way to become an exceptional doctor,” says future doctor Muqri.

With only one intake per year and a boutique-sized cohort to ensure each student receives quality education, students can begin their foundation studies at RUMC in June 2023.

Upon concluding the FIS programme, students may progress directly to RUMC’s five-year medical degree programme where they are guaranteed a place to study medicine abroad at one of the world’s best universities, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) or University College Dublin (UCD), RUMC’s parent universities where pre-clinical training of the highest quality is offered.

RUMC’s undergraduate students enjoy the best-of-both-worlds experience. As the only medical school in Penang, Malaysia, RUMC’s medical students have exclusive access to its training hospitals. This makes the clinical training phase of the programme an extremely valuable and impactful learning experience, preparing the students well for the Housemanship years ahead upon graduation.

Spaces for both the FIS and undergraduate programme are limited, so get in touch with RUMC’s student counsellors and apply today. Students may apply to the FIS programme with their SPM trial results to secure their seat.
