Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek was overcome with emotion when her eldest child’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results were announced.
Beaming with pride, the mother of six said her daughter Thurayya Fadhilah Mohd Fadzli scored nine As.
“This is one of the sweetest memories I’ve experienced this year. I want to tell all parents that our children have the potential to achieve success, provided we support them as much as possible,” she said during a press conference at SMK Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (Integrasi), Kajang, Selangor, on June 8.Earlier, Fadhlina and her husband Mohd Fadzli Mohd Arsad were with their daughter at Sekolah Menengah Agama (SMA) Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, to collect the results.“I am very proud of my daughter. As a mother, I am overwhelmed by this achievement because I know the amount of hard work my daughter had put in during these challenging years, especially as the amount of time and attention I was able to give her was so limited.
“May she continue to strive for success,” she said in a Facebook post.
The minister also visited SMJK Yu Hua in Kajang to mark the release of the SPM 2022 results.
She was accompanied by Education director-general Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali.
Pkharuddin told reporters the achievement gap between urban and rural areas had narrowed by 0.03 points compared with the previous year.
“The performance of students in rural areas improved significantly,” he said, adding that this was the result of the ministry’s efforts to make Internet and learning facilities more accessible to students. Crediting peer guidance as a crucial element for success, Noor Alia Aina Mohamad Razuki, who aspires to be an accountant, said hard work alone can only get you so far.
“Friends who help guide you through your studies are really important.
“Nobody can achieve anything alone without support and motivation,” the SMK Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (Integrasi) student who scored 9As said.
A lorry driver who only wanted to be known as P. Sivakumar was among the anxious parents at the school. The 55-year-old said he was “very satisfied” with his daughter’s results.
Gaaythiri improved on her trial results and got two As for the SPM.
“I had invested quite a bit by sending her to two tuition centres, so I am very happy.
“All my sacrifices have paid off. She passed all her subjects. I hope to see her off to university soon,” he said.
Gaaythiri is hoping to study architecture at a public university or polytechnic.
A total of 373,974 candidates sat for SPM 2022 at 3,355 exam centres nationwide.
