One-year foundation programme followed by 2.5 years to complete ACCA
GRADUATING as an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional can lead to a wide range of long-term career prospects in the accountancy and finance-related field, as it is one of the oldest accounting bodies and a globally-recognised qualification.
While there are many paths to take to become an accounting professional, ACCA Foundation in Accountancy (ACCA FIA) top achiever Xander Wong and Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) top achiever Jenny Ho chose Taylor’s College.
The fastest way for a high school graduate to become a chartered accountant would be to do the one-year ACCA FIA programme at Taylor’s College and thereafter 2.5 years to complete the ACCA programme.
Xander recently completed the one-year ACCA FIA programme. For the September 2022 examination session, he was ranked top in Malaysia and second in the world in the Maintaining Financial Records Paper.
“As ACCA FIA is 100% exam-based, the rigorousness of the course can sometimes be challenging,” he says.
“However, with sufficient preparation and support from my lecturers and friends, I was able to do well. My lecturers were very helpful and the sharing of knowledge with my friends made it easier to understand the concepts and conventions of accounting.”
With pastoral care at the core of Taylor’ sphere, his experience with learning in a conducive environment of passionate academicians and supportive students has supported Xander throughout his time studying ACCA FIA at Taylor’s College.
“The facilities at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus are just right for studying and enjoying your higher education life,” says Xander who aspires to pursue a career in the business field after completing the programme and gaining work experience with a strong foundation in the subject matter.
For Jenny, even though she did not take the accounting paper for SPM, it did not stop her from pursuing the accounting profession as she would like to help with the family business or even start her own. Like Xander, the nurturing support system at Taylor’s was very helpful for her as lecturers take time to explain everything in detail even after class hours.
“What also helped is the facilities at the campus. My favourite space is the self-study area which is open 24/7 to help me concentrate especially during examination periods, “ she recalls.
Jenny recently completed her first nine ACCA papers at Taylor’s College and will be completing her final four papers at Birmingham City University (BCU) in September. This is a transfer pathway exclusively available at Taylor’s College, whereby students can complete their final four papers overseas.
Furthermore, if students choose to head to BCU, they will receive an exclusive pass to BCU’s Master’s programme after completing the final four papers.
Jenny received world prizes in the Foundation in Audit and Foundation in Taxation papers for the December 2021 examination session of the ACCA FIA, and the Malaysian prize in Audit and Assurance paper for the December 2022 examination session of the ACCA.
To nurture more young accountants like Xander and Jenny, Taylor’s College is offering the ACCA Titans Package to students who wish to enrol in ACCA or ACCA FIA.
There are two categories:
