Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) Choir did the varsity proud recently by bagging the Silver Award (University and College Choirs category) at the 12th World Choir Games.
Dubbed the “Olympics of Choral Music”, the international competition was held from July 9 to 14 in Gangneung, South Korea.
With the “singing together brings nations together” theme, the World Choir Games saw 324 groups from 46 countries vying for glory in 28 categories.
Expressing their determination to build on the experience, continue their pursuit of excellence, and connect cultures through music, TAR UMT Choir, comprising 18 students and eight alumni members, said the overwhelming encouragement and camaraderie from audiences of different nationalities had left an indelible mark on the group’s journey.
TAR UMT Choir, which performed “Amor Vittorioso”, “Hela Rotan”, “In Paradisum” and “Malay Melodies” during the competition, also participated in friendship concerts and workshops to engage with choirs from various countries.
TAR UMT president Prof Dr Lee Sze Wei said the achievement marked a momentous milestone for the varsity’s choir.
“Their unwavering dedication and exceptional talent have brought immense pride to our institution and nation,” he said in a press release.
