FIRST City University College is offering study awards to students keen on pursuing its Foundation in Art & Design (FAD) programme.
To make higher education more accessible and affordable, the institution is also offering students who excel academically in the programme bursary awards when they proceed to their degree programmes.
The FAD is a year-long programme that introduces students to the fundamentals of art and design, emphasising creativity, critical thinking, risk-taking, experimentation and exploration.
Tailored for those aspiring to have a successful career in art and design, the curriculum, adapted from reputable UK Art Programmes, helps students identify their interests and strengths.
Dedicated creative spaces at the institution’s Faculty of Design & Built Environment allow students to immerse themselves in the “studio culture”, a crucial aspect of their bachelor’s degree studies.
As part of the FAD programme, students will immerse themselves in three modules, namely, the Design Module, which focuses on principles, practices, and design processes; the Drawing Module, aimed at developing visual awareness; and the Critical Studies Module, which teaches analytical and critical research skills.
The programme culminates in a final project that matches students with their preferred design specialisation: graphic design, interior architecture & design, furniture & product design, or fashion marketing.
Former FAD students have expressed their appreciation for the strong fundamentals they received during the course of their studies.
Khoo Chaw Hong, who has just completed his BA (Hons) in Furniture and Product Design, credited his latest academic achievements to the solid foundation he received under the FAD programme.
Khoo, who was named first runner-up in the prestigious Kian Furniture Design Competition 2023, believes that his triumph in the competition was a direct result of the quality education he received.
Like Khoo, Ang Wei Chun, Tengku Putri Faslina Aini and Hannah Yong Ern Qi also credited the FAD programme with helping them excel academically and in industry competitions.
The trio, who are studying for the BA (Hons) in Graphic Design degree, recently won the Best Advertising & Promotion Concept in the Avante Hotel Social Media Campaign competition.
