PETALING JAYA: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) received an academic boost after 14 of its researchers were ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by US-based Stanford University, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president, who is also a member of the UTAR University Council, congratulated the 14 UTAR academic staff members for being named in the coveted list on Oct 22.
"The number of academic staff (from UTAR) in the selection increases year-by-year, with three in 2020, six in 2021, eight last year and as many as 14 today," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Oct 24).
Dr Wee thanked the members of the UTAR Education Foundation Board of Trustees, members of the University Council, president and CEO Prof Datuk Dr Ewe Hong Tat and all of the university’s academic staff for constantly improving academia in UTAR.
"Let’s continue to work hard to provide high-quality and affordable education to all students," added Dr Wee.
Among those who made into the list were Emeritus Professor Dr Boo Nem Yun @ Mooi Nam Ying for General and Internal Medicine, Ir Professor Dr Chung Boon Kuan for Information and Communication, Ir Professor Dr Ong Kok Seng for Energy, Professor Dr Mohammed J.K. Bashir for Environmental Sciences, Professor Ts Dr Yau Kok Lim for Networking & Telecommunications and Professor Dr Sumathi Sethupathi for the Chemical Engineering field.
"Your outstanding performance is our pride!" said Dr Wee.
According to UTAR, Stanford University used the Scopus author profiles as of Oct 1 this year to list the top 2% scientists in various fields.
