HAVING studied fashion design for six semesters, Taylor’s University Bachelor of Fashion Design Technology (Hons) final year students recently demonstrated that they have what it takes to dazzle on both the international and national stages.

As part of their graduate showcase, they unveiled 24 avant-garde looks featured in the international Gen-Next segment of Thailand Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2024 (TFW SS24).

As the programme’s first international runway showcase since it was introduced in 2020, the show was aligned with the programme’s international fashion exposure efforts.

Taylor’s University Bachelor of Fashion Design Technology programme director Maria Sandra Wijaya said the international graduate showcase not only highlighted the talents of the students, but also underscored the university’s commitment to fostering the next generation of fashion leaders who are able to engage with the industry and broaden their perspective on the global fashion scene.

“As TFW is renowned for nurturing emerging talents and providing a global stage for promising young designers, Taylor’s University is honoured to be a part of this event, showcasing the ability to blend creativity with the technical proficiency of our graduating class in the realm of fashion design,” she said in a press release dated Dec 14.

Following their international showcase, the students took part in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s Christmas Showcase, where they featured 24 colourful, intricate and eye-catching designs created over six semesters.

Participating student Steffi said being able to showcase their commitment to versatility, diversity and inclusivity through their creative expressions at both events was a dream come true for the students.

“It has been an incredible journey, and we are grateful for the guidance and support we received from our mentors in the programme. “This experience has further fuelled our passion for fashion design and opened doors to endless possibilities as we resonate with both the international and local audiences,” said the 21-year-old.

TFW SS24 took place on Nov 29 and 30, followed by Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s Christmas Showcase on Dec 3.

The students captivated audiences with their innovative and cutting-edge designs that seamlessly blended traditional and contemporary elements, according to the press release.

Taylor’s University is the first private university in Malaysia to offer a degree in fashion design technology.
