Gamifying learning

SMK Jalan Bukit, Selangor, students are on track to achieving success, thanks to an initiative to help the school boost English comprehension and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

Lenovo, in partnership with Solve Education!, a philanthropic organisation committed to enabling people to empower themselves through education, is supplying RM45,000 worth of laptops featuring EdBot.ai, a game-based platform that makes learning English fun and interactive, to help students prepare for future STEM studies.

The school will also have access to expert technical assistance throughout the lifespan of the laptops, maximising their benefits for students, Lenovo said in a press release dated April 15.

Describing the donation as having profound impact on the students’ future, SMK Jalan Bukit principal Noor Lailah Muhammad Zain said access to technology will empower her charges to engage, create and innovate within the dynamic realm of STEM.

Lenovo Malaysia general manager Varinderjit Singh said SMK Jalan Bukit was selected due to the school’s success in an English language competition and their dedication to gamifying learning for students.

“To support these innovative efforts among teachers, we aim to equip them with the necessary tools.

“Through our close collaboration with Solve Education!, we aspire to not only provide laptops, but also offer the necessary tools and technical support to enhance the learning experience.

“Technology and education must go hand in hand,” he said, adding that Lenovo’s EdVision Community Programme aligns with the government’s focus on STEM education and improving technology infrastructure in schools.

Through EdVision, launched in partnership with Microsoft, Lenovo provides a range of resources, including teacher training, certifications and community engagement.

To date, EdVision has attracted over 500 educators and 130 students to participate in workshops and training sessions.

More than 200 educators have obtained Microsoft Certified Educator status, validating their global educator technology literacy competencies, and over 5,000 have engaged in industry education events, where they were able to exchange ideas and stay updated on new technology advancements.
