THE Johor STEM Carnival is a vital platform for equipping the state’s talent with the essential skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to succeed in the workforce of tomorrow.

The initiative which facilitates collaboration between educational institutions, industry players, and young talents, fosters knowledge transfer and creates valuable networking opportunities, said Johor state education and information committee chairman Aznan Tamin, and is in alignment with industry demands.

The state government provides comprehensive, quality education to 584,737 students, with the Johor STEM Carnival serving as a valuable platform to enhance their creative and innovative thinking, encouraging healthy competition, and exposing them to the dynamic and ever-evolving field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), he said in a press release.

Attended by over 1,500 participants, the Johor STEM carnival was organised by the state education department on Sept 4 in collaboration with Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) via its education arm EduCity Iskandar, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Raja Zarith Sofia of Johor Foundation.

An annual event aimed at promoting and nurturing STEM skills among students, the carnival emphasised the importance of STEM education as a foundation for future talent development.

The carnival serves as a dynamic platform for students to develop and enhance their skills in STEM-related fields, essential for thriving in today’s fast-evolving technological landscape.

This year, a total of 418 students from various schools across Johor showcased their talents in twelve different categories, with the majority of winners coming from schools in the Johor Bahru district.

By supporting the Johor STEM Carnival 2024 which was held at the EduCity Sports Complex, IIB is reinforcing its dedication to empowering youth in Johor and fostering talent development through upskilling initiatives, said its president/chief executive Datuk Idzham Mohd Hashim.

“By supporting and investing in this initiative, we align with Johor’s vision to achieve 60% student enrolment in the STEM stream by 2028,” he said.
