Run for diplomacy

Flag-off: Participants from SMJK Chong Hwa leading the run.

In celebration of 50 years of diplomatic ties between China and Malaysia, some 5,500 participants joined the recent 8th TARCian Run along the scenic Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway.

Organised by the TARCian Alumni Association (TAA) and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), the event, sponsored by Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), took place on Sept 22 at the TAR UMT Kuala Lumpur Campus.

The 7km run attracted members of the public, as well as participants from SMJK Chong Hwa Kuala Lumpur, TAR UMT campuses in KL, Perak, Johor and Pahang, and the China Students and Scholars Association in Malaysia.

The event also featured activities like student performances, games, and a lucky draw with an RM1,500 grand prize.

First-timer Nabilah Mohd Noor shared her joy: “I love running, and it is great to experience the festive atmosphere of the run.”

At the finishing line celebration, attended by Chinese Embassy in Malaysia counsellor Zhao Changtao, TAR UMT president Prof Datuk Dr Lee Sze Wei thanked the participants for making the event memorable.

The TARCian Run has been held annually since 2015 as part of TAA’s initiatives to raise funds for the TARC Education Fund. Since its inception in 2012, TAA has raised over RM10mil for the fund.
