FOR democracy to work, it requires huge effort and involvement from all parts of the society. It is a mechanism that is designed not to run on its own, but to be participated and led by the people.
As a system, it runs manually, which gives a lot of room for involvement and orientation depending on the societal needs, rather than an automated system that only needs to be set up and monitored by the technicians and run through autopilot, so to speak. But like any other manual system, it requires full engagement for it to work for everyone and to unleash its full potential.
