Ex-magistrate wins bid to be readmitted as advocate and solicitor


PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has allowed the appeal of former magistrate B. Thavanan-than, who was convicted of a corruption charge 15 years ago, to be restored to the Roll of Advocates and Solicitors of the High Court of Malaya.

The apex court’s three-man bench led by President of the Court of Appeal Justice Alauddin Mohd Sheriff, who sat with Justices Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin and James Foong Cheng Yuen, unanimously ruled in favour of Thavananthan and ordered that he be restored under Section 107 of the Legal Professions Act 1976.
