Malacca tram project gets SPAD green light

MALACCA: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has given the green light to the state government to go ahead with the city-Tram project although there is no specific law on tram transportation. SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the commission had held discussions with the Attorney-General's Chambers in drafting the law on trams for tabling in Parliament.

“The public transportation law does not cover tram services. But we have allowed the Malacca tram service to proceed as there is still adequate time for the specific law to be put in place,” he said after making a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam at his office in Seri Negri here yesterday.
