The Asean Lane launch at KLIA

SEPANG: The Immigration Department launched two express lanes at KL International Airport (KLIA) and KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) for arrival and departure of travellers from the Asean countries and those from other countries with long-term visa.

The Asean Lane goes into operation immediately while the Foreigner eGate at KLIA goes into operation on Dec 29 and at KLIA2 in February next year.

The Asean Lane would expedite the immigration procedure for people from Asean attending meetings, seminars and conferences in Malaysia, Immigration director-general Datuk Mustafa Ibrahim said.

Five counters for the Asean Lane had been set up at KLIA - two at the international departure hall and three at the international arrival hall - while four had been opened at KLIA2.

Mustafa said about 20 per cent of the travellers to Malaysia were Asean passport holders.

He said the Asean Lane facility would also be provided at the Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi and Penang international airports by February next year.

Mustafa said the Foreigner eGate would be a fast-track facility for foreigners with long-term visa that would also record their biometric details. - Bernama
